June 4, 2014 Airport Office Worker Killed by Propeller An office worker at an Ohio regional airport was killed by walking into a spinning airplane propeller, authorities said on Wednesday. Sarah Rhoads, 24, who worked at Start Skydiving, died Tuesday from injuries she suffered on Sunday at Middletown Regional Airport, which is about 40 miles (64 km) north of Cincinnati, authorities said. Rhoads had worked at the airport for three years. “Moving propellers are loud but you don’t really see them,” said Epperhart, a flight trainer. “You can look at them and stare right through them.” This tragedy could have easily been prevented. Tim Epperhart noted the obvious stating “Moving propellers are loud but you don’t really see them. You can look at them and stare right through them.” This is common knowledge. So common that safe practice requires the plane operator and FBO to position markers, barricades or personnel between active prop engines (or jet engines) and passengers or non-tarmac personnel. How sad that the young promising life of Sarah Roads came to such an abrupt and needless end.
