January 24, 2014 Winter Weather Closes Roads Across Baton Rouge The mix of rain, snow and sleet that hit South Louisiana late last night has taken its toll on the local roads, causing hazardous driving conditions and closing multiple roads and highways across the area. This morning, both the old and new Mississippi bridges (I-10 and US-190) were closed in both directions, along with the Sunshine Bridge in Ascension Parish and all bridges in West Baton Rouge Parish. Additionally, I-10/I-110 was closed in both directions from College to Scenic Highway. The winter weather has also caused most of the schools in Baton Rouge to close for the day. While some of these roads are slowly opening, with the wintery mix of sleet and snow flurries expected to continue into the afternoon, authorities are still suggesting that residents stay inside and off the roads unless absolutely necessary. That is because these winter weather conditions can cause ice on the roads, especially bridges, which can lead to serious and even deadly accidents. In fact, there have already been an estimated 40 accident in Baton Rouge alone this morning. If you do have to travel on the roads, be careful and drive safely. Remember that these winter conditions can cause "black ice", a thin layer of ice that is transparent to drivers and can cause serious accidents. Remember, if you are a victim of such an accident, the attorneys here at Fisher Injury Lawyers can help you through the process of recovering from your injuries and holding the proper parties responsible.
