Provencal, LA – Forest Hill Man Killed In Hit-And-Run On LA-117 At Vernon Wester Rd

Provencal, LA (August 10, 2019) – A man from Natchitoches Parish was killed and another man arrested after a fatal hit-and-run accident on Wednesday, August 7^th. The wreck took place at the intersection of LA-117 and Vernon Wester Road around 6:40 p.m. near Provencal, according to reports from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office. The victim who lost his life in the crash was identified as 30-year-old Ismael Guzman. 

Officials report that a 2008 Toyota Tundra driven by 32-year-old Luis Fernando-Hernadez Salas, of Shreveport, was traveling north on LA-117 at a high rate of speed. The Tundra struck the rear of a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Guzman. The collision caused the S-10 to enter the southbound lanes, crash into a guardrail, and turn over many times, coming to a stop upside down. 

Guzman was extracted from the vehicle and taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Salas abandoned his vehicle and was chased by police officials and civilians. He was later captured and taken into custody under numerous charges, including vehicular homicide and DWI. The cause of the accident is under investigation. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Ismael Guzman at this time.
