June 19, 2019 Port Allen, LA – UPDATE: Truck Driver Charged for Role in Fatal Crash on LA-76 Port Allen, LA (June 18, 2019) – The West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has identified the truck driver responsible for causing the death of a man riding his ATV earlier in the week in Port Allen. The crash victim was James D. Major Jr., 61-years-old, who died while traveling on an ATV on LA-76 on Saturday, June 15th. At the time, the events leading up to the accident were not yet known, but authorities have charged an at-fault party. The truck driver allegedly responsible was identified as 33-year-old Roy Jones, who deliberately dumped sand from his truck on the roadway and created the hazardous conditions which resulted in the death of Major. Jones was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and hauling an insecure load and tampering with private property without consent. Jones has admitted to intentionally dumping the sand in order to clear his truck. The incident is still under investigation. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of James D.
