August 17, 2019 Port Allen, LA – Man Arrested After Injuring Trooper At Traffic Stop On I-10 Port Allen, LA (August 16, 2019) – On Thursday, August 15, 2019, troopers with the Louisiana State Police pulled over a 2014 Dodge Ram on I-10 near Port Allen due to a traffic violation. The truck was driven by 39-year-old Darrell Ray Smith, Jr. of Livingston. He was pulled over by police around 3:00 a.m. for a traffic violation. Smith attempted to flee the traffic stop after police found narcotics in the vehicle. Smith was aggressive with the officers, hitting them while attempting to leave the scene. Smith was able to get back in his vehicle and drive away, with a trooper caught in the driver-side door jam. Smith dragged the officer as he accelerated down the roadway. The officer freed himself and fell the road, sustaining injuries. Smith was later found in Hammond and taken into custody. He was indicted on several charges, including battery of an officer and intention to distribute narcotics. Our thoughts are with the injured trooper and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery. Louisiana Aggressive Driving Accidents Aggressive behaviors behind the wheel can cause drivers to do risky things.
