Manchac, LA – Fatal Two Vehicle Collision On I-55

Manchac, LA (July 7, 2019) – Early on Sunday morning, July 7^th, Louisiana State Police reported a fatal collision that took place on Interstate 55 in northern Tangipahoa Parish, outside of Manchac. Local police were notified of the incident at 3:48 a.m. 

The identity of the deceased party has not been released at this time.

The deceased was driving a 2008 Nissan Maxima northbound on I-55. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Maxima stopped in the left lane of the roadway, where it was then struck by a 2017 Hyundai Sonata.

The driver of the Nissan was unrestrained at the time of impact and sustained fatal injuries in the collision. 

The occupants of the Hyundai were restrained but sustained significant injuries. After the crash, the Hyundai occupants were transported to local medical facilities for treatment of their injuries. 

Toxicology tests were taken at the scene; results have not yet been released. The crash is currently under investigation. 

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims and their families, in hopes of a full recovery.
