Major 18 Wheeler Accident Injures Two

A major 18 wheeler accident Tuesday morning on State Highway 36 between Gatesville and Temple blocked westbound traffic and injured two.

The accident, reported at around 6 a.m., involved an 18-wheeler and a passenger car, Moffat Fire Chief Hal Pagel said.

Pagel said the truck driver and the driver of the car both were taken by ambulance to a Temple hospital with undetermined injuries.

“It’s like a war zone out here,” Pagel said.

“I’ve been doing this for 40 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much destruction to a truck and trailer,” Pagel said.

Pagel said the 18-wheeler, which was hauling a load of pipe, slammed into the bridge railing on the east side of the bridge and the car was likely damaged when it hit debris from the truck crash.

Pagel said westbound traffic would be halted for some time while crews cleaned up the debris and a fire department Hazmat team contained a diesel spill that was estimated to be about 60 gallons.
