Louisiana Deadly Motorcycle Accidents Motorcycles are a liberating way to get from place to place, making them a go-to vehicle for many people throughout Louisiana. However, motorcycle crashes can be extremely dangerous, and accidents often result in the death of the rider. In 2017, there were 1,854 motorcycle accidents reported in the state, which is likely much less than the actual number of motorcycle accidents in Louisiana. These accidents can be the result of many factors, such as poor vehicle maintenance, blind spots of other vehicles, or sudden-stops on the roadway. Motorcyclists have little safety protections, even when wearing a helmet. 40 percent of all motorcycle fatalities involved riders wearing helmets at the time of impact.
