Grosse Tête, LA – Truck Driver Dies In Four-Vehicle Crash On West I-10 And LA Hwy. 77

Grosse Tête, LA (July 25, 2019) – Local authorities recently confirmed that a truck driver had died as a result of an accident involving four 18-wheeler semi-trucks in the area of Iberville Parish today, July 25, 2019.

Based on the primary police report, 82-year-old Robert McCarty (a resident of Caldwell, Texas) and another driver had been involved in a wreck and (as a result) had pulled their semi-trucks to the west side of Interstate 10. At the same time, 35-year-old Datril Dunbar (a resident of Sebring, Florida) was driving a 2014 Freightliner along the same route and was tailing a 2018 Freightliner. For indeterminate reasons, Dunbar slammed his vehicle into the rear of the 2018 truck and subsequently plowed into the semi-trucks of McCarthy and the second stalled driver.

Authorities confirmed that McCarty, who had exited his semi-truck, suffered traumatic injuries during the violent impact. Dunbar and the other two drivers were wearing seatbelts and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Louisiana investigators do not believe impairment was a probable cause of this crash, but officers will be taking samples as part of toxicology tests.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Robert McCarty at this time.  Our thoughts are with the injured truck drivers and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
