Greenville Man Dies in Accident

A Greenville man died and four others were injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 165 south of Bastrop in Louisiana.

State troopers responded to the crash that claimed the life of the South Carolina man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge Charger, driven by 20-year-old Fredin Sanchez of Greenville, S.C., was traveling south on U.S. 165 when it lost control and started to spin in a clockwise direction. The Charger entered the northbound side of U.S. 165 and was struck by a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by 60-year-old Carolyn Morrison of Bastrop.

Sanchez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by The Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. The only passenger in the Charger, 23-year-old Geyner Ramirez of Greenville, S.C., suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Shreveport. Morrison suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital in Monroe. The two passengers in the Hyundai, 61-year-old Shelia Rallinson of Bastrop and 61-year-old Bonnie Gilley of Bastrop, suffered moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital in Monroe.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
