Fatal Crash on I-10 West near Henderson, Louisiana

HENDERSON — Two people were killed Tuesday morning on Interstate 10 in Henderson when an eastbound car crossed the median into the westbound lanes and struck a motorcycle, a police official said.

Henderson Police Chief Leroy Guidry said the driver of the car, who was the lone occupant, and the motorcyclist were killed in the accident reported at 9:19 a.m.

Guidry said the vehicles came to rest off the interstate lanes and all lanes remained open.

"Though we cannot say if we’ll close some lanes for periods of time for the investigation” into the accident, Guidry said.

He said police were withholding the identities of the victims pending family notifications.

Guidry said investigators did not immediately know why the driver of the car entered the westbound lanes.

Troop I Spokesman Stephen Hammons said State Police had been called in to assist.
