DISABILITY / LOSS OF VALUE POLICIES AGAIN QUESTIONED

A recent New York Times article by staff writer Marc Tracy again questioned the effectiveness of NCAA approved loss of value/disability insurance policies. In “Insurance Doesn’t Eliminate Risk for Top College Athletes Who Forgo Draft”, Tracy points out what is becoming increasingly clear: it is highly unlikely that an athlete will actually collect anything at all from the insurer. The benefit of these policies, rather than going to the athlete, goes to the University (who receives the benefit of another year from a top player) and the insurance companies (who typically receive over $8000/$1million of coverage with no real risk of actual payout).

As the author notes, no college player is known to have collected on a loss of value insurance policy. However, more and more, these athletes seek the advice of experienced NCAA and NFL disability lawyers to help them recover under the policies. Fisher Injury Lawyers’ roster of consultation and lawsuit client athletes includes Breslin, Marcus Lattimore, Stefan Wisniewski, Ciron Black,  Miles Dieffenbach among others.  Bryan and Tommy Fisher are perhaps the most capable, well known and successful lawyers in this challenging area of law.
