Crowley, LA – Kaplan Woman Dies in Car Wreck On Hwy 13 near Simon Rd

Crowley, LA (June 4, 2019) – Louisiana State Police officers have identified the victim of a fatal car accident on Tuesday as 93-year-old Ella Herbert, a resident of Kaplan. The crash had occurred in the area of Acadia Parish, along LA-13 near Simon Road.

Police conducted an initial investigation of the crash sometime around 3:15 p.m. on June 4th.

As revealed in the report, Boyd Herbert, a 42-year old resident of Abbeville, had been driving his 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 southbound along Highway 13.  Simultaneously, 55-year-old William Serrano, of Lake Charles, was driving a 2019 Peterbilt dump truck northbound across the same route. For unspecified reasons, Serrano then drove into a private lot and did not provide the right of way to Herbert, resulting in a collision between the truck and the car.

During the crash, Serrano had been wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain injuries.

Boyd Herbert was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment of severe injuries. His passenger, Ella Hebert, succumbed to her injuries in the incident.

We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Ella Herbert. Our thoughts are with Boyd Herbert and his family at this difficult time.
