July 31, 2019 Baton Rouge, LA – Update: Deputy Involved in Fatal Crash on LA Highway 73 Baton Rouge, LA (July 31, 2019) – On Monday, July 29 around 6:00 a.m., police responded to the scene of a fatal crash that took place on LA Highway 73 in Baton Rouge. The accident, according to police, involved two vehicles. One of the vehicles involved has since been identified as a Chevy Silverado that was being driven by a Baton Rouge Reserve Deputy, Vincent Dipuma. According to authorities, Dipuma was not on duty at the time and was using his personal vehicle. He remains hospitalized at this time and has been placed on leave. A sanitation worker lost his life in the accident, who police have since identified as 40-year-old Ricky Mitchell of Baton Rouge. The trash truck was stopped with Mitchell standing behind it when the Chevy Silverado slammed into the back of the truck. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
