Wrong-Way Collisions in Louisiana

Each year, there was an average of 261 deadly wrong-way collisions on divided highways in the United States. A majority of wrong-way crashes take place in urban areas, accounting for 80%, and 70% of wrong-way accidents involve passenger vehicles. These crashes have the potential to cause serious injury to involved parties.

These head-on crashes are more dangerous than other types of accidents due to the high speeds of the vehicles involved. Oftentimes, drivers don’t expect an oncoming vehicle on a one-way road. As both vehicles speed toward each other, all occupants at are at risk of being seriously injured.
