Crash Between SUV and School Bus Leaves Four Unrestrained Drivers Dead

A crash on US Highway 90 in St. Mary Parish between a school bus and an SUV left four people in the SUV dead and many others injured.  The SUV was a Kia Sorrento being driven by 36 year-old Ladonna Cheatham of Patterson and was heading west on US 90.  The other vehicle was a Lafayette Parish school bus heading east on US 90 and carrying 30 students and 5 adults.

For an unknown reason, the left rear tire of the SUV failed and caused it to go off the left side of the road, cross the median, and strike the school bus.  Unfortunately, Cheatham and three of the passengers in her vehicle were unrestrained, ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced dead at the scene.  The three deceased passengers were identified as: 6 year-old Destiny Cheatham, 7 year-old Dwayne Escort and 16 year-old Marcus Cheatham.  The fourth passenger, 17 year-old Mark Cheatham was restrained and treated at a local hospital with moderate injuries.
